Betoch Drama – Part 243 (Ethiopian Drama)
Betoch is an Ethiopian television family sitcom starring Tilahun Gugsa which has aired on Ethiopian National Broadcaster ETV since 2013. The show airs every Saturday and focuses on a middle-class Ethiopian family living in Addis Ababa (the capital of Ethiopia). The gained wide popularity among the broader Ethiopian public as it was the first sitcom ever aired in the country.
The patriarch to the family Zeru (Tilahun Gugsa) and Azalu (Makda Haile) is his wife. They live with their four children Meraf (Gelila Raesom), Bezabe (Fikadu Fasil), Erestae (Melat Tesfaye), and Yebekal (Ashenafi Mehalet). Although the show is comedic in nature, it does touch on serious subjects from time to time, such as corruption.
Plot
The plot of the series involves a middle-class Ethiopian family trying to survive life with their four children. Along for the ride are the housemaid Shashe (Nitsu Haile) and the house guard Eke (Nibret Gelaw)
‘Betoch’ is an Ethiopian sitcom created and directed by Ashenafi Mahlet and produced by the collaborating of Tilahiun Gugsa Advertising and promotion PLC and Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC). The sitcom stars legend Tilahun Gugsa as Zeru Mola, Makda Hailu (Azalu), Gelila Resom (Mafi), Fekadu Fasil (Bezabh), Ashenafi Mahlet (Yebekal), Melat Tesfaye (Ereste), Netsu Haile as a cooker and housekeeper of the family, Nebret Gelaw (Eke) as a guard.
Though the genre of the movie is comedy bit, it needs to be watched with the expectation that it is a story that does make your mind work a bit. The core ideas of this funny sitcom are dealing with the social lives and current problems in the society.
