The Turkish Language Taught in Ethiopian Universities
It is through the Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) that the Turkish language will be taught in several universities in Ethiopia.
As part of the “Turcology Project” of the Yunus Entre Institute (YEE), the Turkish language will be taught in the three most famous universities of Ethiopia, throughout this year.
The Institute, which aims to build cross-cultural bridges between countries via the Turkish language, is strengthening its platforms through academic cooperation between universities.
In February 2017, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Ethiopian counterpart Mulatu Teshome Wirtu signed an academic and cultural agreement in Ankara. It is within the framework of this agreement that the Yunus Emre Institute has started work for the teaching of the Turkish language in Ethiopian universities.
To this end, throughout the year, Turkish language courses will be offered at Addis Ababa, Mekele and Wollo universities.
It should be noted that a protocol was signed on October 24, 2017, between the Yunus Emre Institute and the University of Mekele, allowing the teaching of the Turkish language to start from the second semester.
Turkish lessons will be coordinated by the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The bright and qualified students will be able to participate in the Summer School, organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in Turkey.
The Yunus Emre Institute has a protocol based on the “Turcology Project” in partnership with 85 universities in 46 countries. Some 85 Turkish academics work in these universities. Since the beginning of the “Turcology Project”, 120,531 people have learned Turkish.
