Ethiopian medical graduates urge the government for jobs
Ethiopia has 28 public and eight private referral and teaching colleges with the capacity to graduate over two thousand doctors a year. Despite all efforts, Ethiopia still has the lowest doctor to patient ratio, one doctor for 42,706 patients and the workforce distribution between urban and rural regions is big. Ministry of Health announced plans to narrow the gap and train more professionals. However, more than five hundred medical graduates from different universities are currently unemployed. Ministry of Health justified not assigning the graduates with a budget problem. Representatives of the graduates came to Mereja TV to discuss their concerns and seek a solution from the responsible authorities.
